SlaughterHouse vs. Wu-Tang. Let’s Go!!!

rapper-joe-budden-raekwon-photo-1There’s been a lot going on of late between SlaughterHouse and Wu-Tang. Specifically, 1st, some sparring words between Joe Buddens and Method Man, and as of this weekend, Buddens and Raekwon. This weekend, during the Rock The Bells Tour in Los Angeles, Buddens was approached by Raekwon and members of his entourage. During that encounter, Buddens was allegedly snuffed in the eye. Bong. We all know how Buddens gets loose with the lip service, and some say he’s more that had it coming to him.

Royce The 5′ 9″ came through with the back up and backed up Raekwon personally, letting him and crew know that no one would’a snuck Joe had Royce been there. No one denied that:

Then Joe dropped a video challenging Rae to a one on one “Square Dance”.

Not really mad at Joe wanting to go the old fashioned route. But regardless of whether Joe and Rae thump, I think what the game needs right now is a real classic war of the words between two formidable opponents. In one corner, you have the Wu, a tried and tested veteran collective of skilled lyricists who have been throwing verbal darts for years. In the other, SlaughterHouse, a band of solo wordsmiths coming together to create strength in numbers in a climate that no longer appreciates the art of emceeing.

In my opinion, the last time Hip Hop had a valid war of words between two gifted combatants was the Jay-Z/ Nas fued. Hip Hop needed that. It was dope. Not at all one sided. That was also back in 2001. Close to 10 years ago. Too long.

As much as a physical fight would satisfy the blood lust in some of us, how much more entertaining would it be if these two factions just gave the people what we want. Instead of signing petitions and what not calling for blood, these dudes need to give us what we really want. Let’s get back to what Hip Hop is really about, banging on wax.

Rae has no reason to fight Joe. None at all.

If Budden wants some getback, he needs to run up on Rae how Rae ran up on him.

But we all know Joseph ain’t built like that. He’d rather talk about it then do it.

Dude needs to take it as a loss and keep it moving. Unless he plans on moving to Detroit or Long Beach where Royce & Crooked can continue to hold him down.

As nice as all of these emcees are… Nobody, and I repeat, NOBODY wants it with Ghostface. NOBODY. I think Joell Ortiz and Royce are nasty with it (paws), and even Buddens when he gets in war mode can get busy, but before seeing Ghost, they gotta go through Meth, Rae, Gza, Masta Killah, Rebel INS and RZA. God forbid that Dirty was alive, this shit wouldn’t even be a contest!

Wu don’t want it with slaughterhouse. I give them props because they are vets in the game but other than that it’s a rap. Lyrically these dudes have Wu in their pocket.

Lets be real Ghost has what it takes lyrically to battle slaughterhouse noo ne else in Wu can touch up.

Don’t get me wrong I love Wu and I personally think Method’s Tical is a classic, but let’s be real.

This is my first time touching this topic, but Joe vs. Rae fair one NEEDS to go down, but it prolly won’t. When the real one on one beef cooks up, you’ll see dudes start finally embracing old school with the “I’m to grown for this sh*t” or “that sh*t is beneath me” or “I got kids, B”. Rae should stop frontin’ and shoot the fair one, then make a record with Slaughterhouse. Joe zero-summed everything by assuring that no one would die. Rae should do it…he might could prolly win…he just gotta make that first swing count!LOL

    U-God “Dopium” >>>>>>> Slaughterhouse

Wu Tang “Chamber Music” >>>>>> Slaughterhouse

RZA “Afro Samurai Resurrection” >>>>>> Slaughterhouse

Ghost & Rae on the Doom joint >>>>>>>> Slaughterhouse

    And that’s just this year.

I share ya’ll’s interest in a good beef but truly, this is children against men. And sorry, just because Slaughterhouse has A LOT of words doesn’t mean more than a few are GOOD ones.

I give Slaughterhouse credit for being retarded enough to make this any kind of issue but seriously… seriously.

Maybe someday Slaughterhouse will grow up and realize the difference between making MUSIC and running off at the mowf bar after bar after bar after …

(Rae “Lex Diamond Story,” a much unloved album >>>>>>>> Slaugherhouse too.)

  • http://knowgoodmusic.blogspot.com a-one

You are the ultimate fanboy if you think Wu can handle Slaughterhouse lyrically.

  • http://whowalkinbrooklyn.com Willis Still Sunsweet, WWIB

Content + Soul, a-one, not 4 x Loser logorrhea in name of this so-called “lyricism.” I like Joell and Royce but I listened to Slaughterhouse and fanboys like you mistake mere wordiness for “lyricism,” at least by my definition. (And if we all agree to agree, what’s the point?)

Slaughterhouse = A LOT closer to, say, Army of the Pharoahs or Slow Suicide Stimulus than Wu, which is fine, whatever, but it ain’t changing the depth of the VASTLY different playing fields these dudes come from.

    Now hold on–

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl1V0ynalVg

I’m not a fan of latter day GZA’s sleepwalking flow (that type of deliberation works better on a chess board than on the mic) but ya’ll can’t say word for word he couldn’t rip these clowns apart. NO, I wouldn’t wanna LISTEN to it either but no matter how hype-y Slaughterhouse get, I don’t wanna hear any of ‘em (in this context).

  • http://ghettosofthemind.blogspot.com/ williedynamite

Wu vs Slaughterhouse would be interesting battle. providing it kept lyrical.
The problem is what does the Wu gain in a lyrical battle with a group of underrated yet talented mc’s?
If they win, well they’re the Wu they are vets and expected to win. If they lose is could put yet another chink in the mighty wu tang armor
Another problem is that if shit pops off it could get ugleee.

  • http://twitter.com/bennerH Benner

In a battle Wu would get torn to shreds. But only because they aren’t punchline rappers except for Meth and Deck. Wu would lose to Fred the Godson when you really look at it. So what would that really prove? Have the Wu ever made a diss track???

  • http://twitter.com/bennerH Benner

on a side note… where did the whole “It’s Hip Hop, every MC is SUPPOSED to think they are the best” come from.

  • http://daily-math.com/weblog/ Combat Jack

^”where did the whole “It’s Hip Hop, every MC is SUPPOSED to think they are the best” come from.”

From what I can remember, the very first emcees I ever heard spitting off of cassette tapes claimed they was the best. Melle Mel, Grand Master Caz, Busy Bee, Fresh Prince, LL, Run-DMC, Slick Rick, Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Kool Keith… the list goes on and on. And if some of our favorite rappers over the years didn’t claim to be the best, we as the fans proclaimed them so. Like kinda a strong strand in the dna of Hip Hop from day one.

At least from what I remember.

  • Al

This is joe vs. rae, not Wu vs SH. Stop trying to sensationalize shit.

  • http://elgringocolombiano.blogspot.com El Gringo Colombiano

    CJack,

I suggest a new verb, a word that describes a subset of cases that would be traditionally be labeled “etherings”

    “Peter Pudge Nubbied”

To be used when someone is ethered, & the ethered person is too disoriented or lacking in confidence to even reply. This person then pretends their own ethering never occurred.

Let’s spread this throughout the internets.

Example: Damn, Keith Olbermann just peterpudgenubbied that clown Rush “The Drugsta” Limbaugh!

  • http://twitter.com/bennerH Benner

good point, I mean I too have always upheld that doctrine in discussing rap, just been curious about the genesis of it lately. Starting to question it a little…

Funny thing about Budden was that he wasnt actually using that (il)logic. He said he was only better than half of the mc’s on the vibe list. Which makes sense, he is the ultimate self aware rapper. He specifically called out ceratain rappers that he thought were better than him, and certain rappers that were worse than him. Worse than the jab at Method Man, Joe chuckled smugly at the thought of ODB being better than him.

I think both men should (back to Rae and Buddens now) defend there positions on the list. Unfortunately (as I said before) Wu arent punchline rappers. Slaughterhouse are. Punchlines will win the battle. but punchlines aren’t the only component of a good rapper. I can think of a million punchline rappers who would embarrass the hell out of Rae and the Wu. For what?

  • Polotron

“Worse than the jab at Method Man, Joe chuckled smugly at the thought of ODB being better than him.”

    *places target on back*
I like ODB as much/more than the next guy. But when did he get regarded as better than anyone? (not literally, but..) Next level out of his mind bananas? Yes. Entertaining? All day. But c’mon, it was always, “wtf did he just say?? 730…”. His greatest feat was being that good, while being that…whatever it was.
    *shields activated*

That aside, I’d like to see Wu vs SH line for line. My $ on it being a Slaughter…as, who has ever brought PRESSED material to a battle and won? I think SH’d be able to whip up what was necessary to win.

My $ up? I’d bring in my own SuperGroup to try to take SH off. And (no slight) there wouldn’t be a Wu cat amongst.

WSS,WWIB did lay out another way to look at it…

  • http://danjlovesthe90s.wordpress.com DANJ!

I wouldn’t mind this… but I think that Wu fans are too far gone to accept a loss if it goes down. I love Wu for their great material, but their stans are stuck on their past greatness and they let it cloud their minds that in 2009, a lot of those dudes have seen their best days. Deck has already proven to be ass… RZA has lost it… GZA has def. lost it… Masta Killa and U-God are non-factors… so we’re left with Ghostface, (maybe) Rae, and Meth to stand tall.

I dunno… them SH boys might do something lyrically that the Wu fans may not be able to handle.

    -D!

  • http://www.daily-math.com crisis

seriously, i want to see them go at it in a fucking cypher
    that HAS to happen

im so torn. i really like everyone in slaughterhouse, and i an defs a complete joell ortiz stan, but i am also a total wu stan, esp the GZA

either way, i want to see a LYRICAL beef. wu need some motivation

  • el capitan

Fuck a war on wax…Rap is too soft we need a battle on scene live and direct like them Jamaicans do… When it comes to clash Ninja Man >>>>>>>>>>>> Hip Hop
All these rappers are too afraid about their career etc… I wish Mos Def idea come to reality we need real battle, B-BOY don’t clash on interposed videos why emcees do

  • el capitan

And the Wu still got it I would bet anyday on Rae Ghost Meth and Capachino vs SH

  • Real Talk

If Joe Budden walked in on Rae with six dudes and Rae got hit niggas would be crying foul. But on top of that if Rae came back and said to Joe I want to fight one on one and he didn’t fight Rae shit would be let’s just say different. I love Wu always have always will but I think Rae was wrong on this one. And I feel Joe it’s pass bar 4 bar now.

  • Polotron

Rae, Ghost, Meth, and Capachino vs SlaughterHouse
    (Preemo spins)

Live stream…10 (impartial) judges count for 50%…fan votes 50%…Ca$h battle (sponsored by?)

    Why is this not doable???
INTERNETS, make that happen and everybody wins!

  • brahmabull

“It’s fixed,” Budden told Martinez Thursday (August 13) afternoon. “Slaughterhouse is for peace — the [handshake] was for business purposes. I think we’re already there [for moving forward.] I’m not saying me and him in particular, but, the people who need to speak to each other are definitely speaking to each other…” (Miss Info)

Once again, Budden opens his big mouth and then runs off and asks some people to fix everything. He’s done this with everyone from Saigon to bum ass rappers no one cares about.
I’m really just waiting for him to start an emo rap group with Drake.
