It took a little while for the whole Nas/ Kelis thing sink in for me. I don’t know how much money the god Nasir makes, but regardless, I think that 40K a month for child support is about as raw a deal as you can get. But I don’t think NaS is paying out the ass just for child support. NaS is paying $40K a month for re-creating the “Pumps in a Bump” video {||] at what looks like a drug lord’s house and for spitting Cristal at cameras with Puffy. He’s paying for tales of killing Brazilian models with crushed-up glass after murking her NFL running back husband and running off with $12.5 million. How else can you explain that Russell Simmons’s child support settlement is the exact same amount -only its $20K for each kid? Kelis Ethers Nas, Jay-Z Won
I know, two back to back Nas’ related posts.
So you probably heard how Kelis came up big time in court yesterday. According to TMZ:
“A judge decided Nas has to pay Kelis $55,000 a month in combined spousal and child support plus the mortgage on their L.A. residence.
Nas also has to pay Kelis — who gave birth last night to the couple’s only child — for the baby nurse, prenatal expenses and medical insurance.
The rapper also has to pay $35,000 to his worst nightmare — Kelis’ lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser.”
Dayum lil’ homie! Not saying that he shouldn’t have to pay that, just that dude stays not making the right decisions.
I was just having a conversation last night with my dude Wesley about the much debated battle Takeover vs. Ether. Seems like 8 years after the fact, you still have folk stuck in their views as to who won that battle. My opinion for the record, Takeover technically was a better song than Ether, production wise. Lyrically, Jay-Z spit darts containing accurate truths about Nas’ inconsistency as an artist. Takeover had the effect of killing Nas and whatever was left of his already dying rap career. Nas was dead after Ether.
No one expected a comeback. It wasn’t even possible after the deathblow that Jay delivered. When it dropped, Ether was much more guttural, like a bar room brawl as opposed to a well crafted military strategic operation, Nas throwing random punchline blows that stuck against the monolithic image that Jay-Z spent years to build, each blow causing major damage, blowing holes in and exposing chinks in Shawn Carter’s seemingly inpenetrable armor, blow by random blow, like guerilla warfare against an invading US force. Ether enabled Nas not only to come back, but the lil’ homie came out the victor, having dropped enough bombs to have Hova looking stunned, shell shocked, unsure of his next steps. Eminem did murder him on his own shit. So yeah, even in it’s sloppiness, Ether won. Jay took his first ever vacation after that, licking his wounds and trying to figure out what the fuck took place, how the hell did he end up on his back in that boxing ring, groggily looking up at the ref doing the standard 10 count. You don’t hear cats talking about how so and so got Takeovered. Ether is now a verb that will forever be embedded in rap’s lexicon defining how someone got ganked on wax.
But… in the long run, Jay-Z won. Like I read on Twitter, Jigga lost ftw!

I’ma keep this brief. First off, congrats to Kelis and Nas on the birth of their son Knight. It’s not in my character to speak on other people’s b.i., but for real yo, Nas, Kelis, ya’ll gotta clean that shit up. Trust, I know what the eff I’m talking bout. 12 years in the game with wifey. In the music business. 4 kids. Ya’ll think that shit is easy? Eff the alleged sex tapes and rumors of infidelity.
