This week, we welcome the Super Thug aka N.O.R.E. and get to the bottom of the long standing “beef” between P.A.P.I. and “super attorney” Reggie Ossé. Noreaga speaks on his history with Mobb Deep, Notorious B.I.G., Tragedy, Capone, Chris Lighty and other rap luminaries. Plus, Nore tells us about his trip to the fat farm to visit the late, great Big Pun. Get ready for Combat!!!

One of my favs from the neo Combat Jack Show formula. The Pun story was classic! Salutes!
P.S. Who can I contact about the design internship?

    • Matt Raz

You caught us showing our ass. I just realized we didn’t post the requirements for this like we said we would. I’ll put them up here:

We want someone who is web-focused, with a strong working knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop. Someone that understands design (typography, color theory, layout composition, etc.) but also knows and understands the user experience (UX Design | wire framing ) side of the web to translate what you do into something that people can interact with online / mobile.
-An understanding about compressing images / graphics for the web.
-Can read and/or layout site maps and wireframes in Illustrator.
-Knows the limitations of what can be done online for the desktop vs. low-bandwidth devices (mobile and tablets).
-Any coding ability is a a plus

      Still interested?

      • godfatherdon

Dreaded having to clean out my foyer closet but listening to this episode of CJS with Noreaga while I did made it so easy. Most excellent podcast.

Man, I respect Combat Jack for being so honest about that NORE situation. I had forgotten that NORE had some hard joints back in the day. You doing something right when other Journalists start getting mad at you. The show has an unbiased view about the culture and artists which some journalists and bloggers lack nowadays.

  • PlayerScottFree

Good interview. Nore is the definition of a “good dude”.

As for those bloggers: You need to check them them now. They are going to be writing history one day and that means your history too. It doesn’t matter if they are wrong, privileged, or dumb. They will be the ones heard.

  • http://abbkrii.tumblr.com/ David L

excellent show, this is what its all about.

on that NOISEY interview, Combat. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t that what the interviewer was saying was wholly inaccurate, it was that it was coming from a white dude. and that makes all the difference

In public like that white folks need to get checked when they get too brazen about criticizing what we doing, especially when its framed in these dismissive terms of “but you’re not like the rest of them, Combat, you’re a special negro doing things the right way, i.e. in a way that WE can consume and relate to.” dude laid down a classic underhanded fuckyberg trap and you walked right into that shit lol.

shits about to get deep out there for yall as the show gains notoriety and the fuckybergs have many faces. Stay alert and stay strapped

    respect

    • http://twitter.com/djbenhameen Benhameen Button

I don’t think dude was coming off like that though, Ive talked to him since and he definitely didn’t have that tone in mind. But thanks for the support and yes fuckybergs have many faces not just white ones.

      • http://abbkrii.tumblr.com/ David L

true indeed. i dont think these kind of remarks and the tone they convey are ever intentional, its usually some combination of hubris and ignorance. the fact the he chose to place the CJ show in this worthy journalism category alongside “nerdy white” critics and in contrast to some vague mass of lackluster black and brown writers (who have been covering and shaping the culture for decades longer than the hipster set) is telling. he could have complimented the show without going that route, it was mad irresponsible and I’m glad he got called out for it.

but i’m sure dude is better off for having caught that heat, and it gave way to some good internets banter . julianne escobedo shepherd put together a nice list of rap critics on her blog in response:

        http://jawnita.tumblr.com/post/45787089423/that-piece-on-noisey-about-music-critics-of-color-well

shit, maybe yall could bring a writer or two in to discuss rap journalism in an ep. (the carmanica and ebro eps touched on some of this and those are two of my favorite ones).

        respect

        • Matt Raz

I like that idea. what writers would you want to hear discuss the issue?

          • http://abbkrii.tumblr.com/ David L

for a rap journo themed episode? sacha jenkins was in the game early he would prob bring a lot to the convo (he wrote one of the earlist pieces i ever remember really admiring, it was a puff cover story for vibe in the late 90s. most recently, he did that talk with stretch and bobbito at the new museum that i havent had a chance to watch yet entirely but i heard it was ill). man even someone like missinfo could be fun, from what i know she started at the source. i’m no expert or anything but a show around how the culture is and has been covered media and critic wise could be great imo

          • http://twitter.com/djbenhameen Benhameen Button

I think we have had both of them on here before?

          • http://abbkrii.tumblr.com/ David L

word? not totally surprised, the shows archives are deep. the link i posted above has some interesting names in it, some ppl i wasnt aware of. u guys mentioned toure might be coming through, u might get into some of this stuff with him. nelson george and dream hampton both come to mind. aside from that, outside the media world i was thinking saul williams and/or michael k williams could be interesting too.

anyway, looking forward to the next episode

          • http://twitter.com/djbenhameen Benhameen Button

we have had dream and sacha lol. Yeah man you gotta go to archives. Toure is comimg back soon though. The journalist episodes can be good but sometimes I find them boring as well. Toure not withstanding

          • Older Gods

@manny faces would also be good for that episode. He is someone who has covered hip hop culture since the early days and has a podcast and magazine. His also based in NY.

        • http://twitter.com/djbenhameen Benhameen Button

I still think the issue is being made bigger than it is. People of all color have been involved in and covering Hip-Hop from the beginning. Perhaps not inventing it but covering it yes.

          • http://abbkrii.tumblr.com/ David L

i hear u and i agree, at the end of the day the incident itself is of little consequence. for me, it was only important to the degree that it sparked a mini convo online about rap critics and journalism in 2013, a discussion i think is long overdue and deserves some serious attention.

  • Kweli

Yo, this was another good one. Noreaga talks a lot so that makes it that much more interesting.

I must say though, I was a lil disappointed in him. A few years ago NORE was in Miami touting vegetarianism and weight loss. On Juan Epstein he said he really never drank. Now I hear he’s “fukked up” on the Combat Jack Show. Surely, this is not from tiger bone. Be careful bro.

Lastly, I know this is the Mecca, the birthplace of hip hop and all that. It would be nice to hear some personalities from outside of NY sometimes. Ludacris, Too $hort, Royce Da 5’9″. Imagine the stories Luther Campbell would tell. Love the show though.

    • http://twitter.com/mrchrismorrow Chris Morrow

Love the Luther idea. i’m on it. the problem is catching folks when they come through NYC vs ppl that are here on the regular.

      • Kweli

True dat. Yeh, I thought it may have been a case of when peeps from OT come thru, like y’all did with Big Boi. A Luke interview would indeed be, as the kids say, epic!

  • Ali

Yo, matt can I get that wrong email one more time?? haha

    • Matt Raz

      hahahha. Listen you fuckyberg…
