The Mr. MFN eXquire (@MRMFNeXquire) x Smoke DZA (@smokedza) Episode

What a show. This week’s episode of The Combat Jack Show was cray. We had Brooklyn MC, Mr. MFN eXquire, his consigliere Kenneth Montgomery and Harlem’s own Smoke DZA in the building. eXquire has come a long way since the last time he was on the show. The Universal Republic signee discusses his transition to a major label, who influenced him to sign on the dotted and his take on the current state of hip hop (Chief Keef too). Also on this ep, Up North Trip’s very own Ev Boogie and DJ 7L from Get  On Down stopped by to give a sneak peek of the new Raekwon The Chef Purple Tape Box Set. This is a must have for all the stuck in the 90′s cats and hip-hop fans. Be sure to check out Complex next Monday for an exclusive feature on the box set which will also be available for purchase. Yo Combat, real talk, you came at Pete sideways at the beginning of the show. That ish was ugly, Pete appologized. You should have just left it at that. It seemed like you were real thirsty and trying to get Pete turnt up. Good job Pete at keeping your cool and staying humble player. I like that you guys keep the content and the dynamics of the relationships between each member of the show transparent to the listener but again Combat that was not a good look for you my dude.

I’m glad y’all feel a ways enough to comment. But from where I sit, I wrote and prepped a serious intro the week before, addressing serious issues like suicide & depression & the toll of being a “super negro” in the industry and felt that some of what I planned was lost by Pete’s interruptions. Pete is great, but I was pissed that I couldn’t fully deliver bc of a member of my team. We spoke about it off air but my show is a great forum for us to discuss as much as possible publicly, I think that’s what makes the show great. I’m not always going to be or sound right, but there’s no way I’m going to let cats dilute what I want delivered on air. And I feel sometimes Pete doesn’t know when to pull back. I was really tight b. And I felt it important to air that. As uncomfortable as it may get, that’s what we do. #Newman!

I don’t think Chris Lighty is a “super negro”. I think Chris Lighty was an intelligent business man who worked very hard to get to where he was and for whatever reason decided to take his life, whether it be from depression, stress, etc. Chris Lighty had plenty of money to walk away from it all and provide for his family for the rest of his life. i think the whole “super negro” title is an excuse. Like I said this man worked very hard to get to where he was, nobody handed him anything.
