I have two criticisms of this episode. I didn’t find Mona Scott-Young to be that interesting and on top of being uninteresting throught the whole interview it sounded like she was gasping for air on the mic. The combination of these two factors made for a painful listen. The only reason I listened to the whole show is because I’ve listened to every episode and I wanted to here you guys talk shit.

    • Coolism

I’m not done listening but so far I don’t hear anybody “gasping for air”

Mona Scott-Young seems to be a pretty descent woman. Much respect.

    T-Bag-gasping ie she couldn’t beath?

    • T-Bag

Listen to the interview my dude. Everyone else was breathing without sounding like they were taking their last breath. It’s sounded horrible.

  • Mac

love the past few interviews, but where is everyone? no more music breaks? hope this isint complex media ruining a great thing.

    • T-Bag

I agree, is complex ruining our baby. Where is the team?

    • http://twitter.com/mrchrismorrow Chris Morrow

just for the record, no complex conspiracy. With Star, basically he’s persona non grata in the building we’ve been recording in, so we had to tape at Just’s studio, which couldn’t fit whole crew.

Then with Mona, that just happened out of the blue–we weren’t even taping a show the night that happened—and in the interest of getting it out there, we decided to drop it as is.

but going forward, expect more of the “classic” format as stand alone episodes, supplemented by whatever we end up getting via the grand Complex experiment……

i dont watch reality tv and let’s be honest its all trash for profit

but its always interesting when yall connect the dots in the industry. everyone with a platform paid their dues, got family history in the biz, and/or knows someone that knows someone that you’ve heard of or admire. i like when yall shine a light on ppl behind the scenes and walk through their grind.

combats research game is improving and dallas is cleaning up his act – all around improved flow with the interviews.

the only minor thing i would say is some of the magic is lost in these past couple shows becuase the whole thing is chopped up and edited. logistically i know its hard to bang it out in one go but jsut thought id mention it.

    respect

believe it or not we only had about 20 minutes notice going into that interview, so we had to scramble for research. think it came together nicely in the end.

      • David L

props then thats even more impressive. and yea the whole interview proceeded at a natural pace. look forward to the next show..hopefully more of the crew’ll be present

Listening to the CJS is like having people over and they bring a friend along who rounds out the whole evening. I agree with David L. that “it’s always interesting when yall connect the dots in the industry”. I’m sure that many non-industry listeners (like me) tuned in not knowing who Mona Scott Young was and left saying “who knew”?! This episode drove home the reality of how far-reaching hiphop really is. I also enjoyed listening to an intelligent powerful woman who passed the “Dallas” test with flying colors. Make no mistake…I love the way Dallas tries to penetrate (pause); it gives the show a nice anticipatory flavor.
The CJS is far from perfect but you get the sense that perfection is the goal and that makes for entertaining radio.

Too much kneecap sucking. Mona Scott Young is known or should be known. I felt like Combat was defending her from criticism and didn’t really interview her too much. Whether you like somone or not, do dilligence and make them answer the questions. Let the listener decide.

    • Matt Raz

Not an excuse, but we only had 15 minutes notice going into the interview, so we had to do a dramatically abbreviated research process, something that usually takes at minimum 3-4 hours.

  • BKThoroughbred

What the FUCK, Dallas!!! how the fuck could you even mention Karrine Stephens in the same breathe as Mona Scott!!! I was mad insulted over that attempt at humor.
Overall, It was a good interview and I do like the tighter/shorter format because y’all are more focused.

  • the nature boy

great show. combat i got an idea i want to pitch to you. it belongs in your network. any way i can give u the details let me know.
Dallas = sam jackson in django.
still salty bout that african hatred he was spewing before. dont get mad cuz i’m a nigga on a horse.
respect to mona scott her shows seem a lil bootleg sometimes tho, but i can see she is learning and improving with each episode and i will continue to support her. i might not love lovenhiphop but i wanted more variety in reality tv, a hiphop aspect and also those women are fun to look at on her shows, i love the way she shows that tahiry aint nothing but a big ass and the camera shows every chance they get. i aint mad at cha

Dallas Penn really needs to stop ruining these interviews. Pull a Star and “Shut off his mic!”
